Pride was born on April 29, 1976. His sire was named Mastercharge and his dam was named Little Miss Navajo Joe. He is a 15.2 hands, solid colored appaloosa gelding. Pride was donated to the Rochester Mounted Patrol in 1990, by Ms. Sandy Duell.

Pride was a family pet prior to becoming a police horse. He was successfuly shown since he was two by Ms. Duell and her two daughters, Jennifer and Jessica.
Pride can be spotted by a unique freeze brand on the left side of his neck. Each symbol stands for a number in his registration number. He is crossed registered in both the appaloosa and quarter horse registries.
Since he was appointed a police horse his primary rider has been Officer Laurie L. Smith. They are assigned to the 4th platoon which works 7:30 PM to 3:30 AM. Their responsiblities include safe guarding parking lots, high visibility around the Eastman Theatre, the War Memorial or any special event. They have won numerous police equitation awards. In 1996, they won a silver medal in the obstacle course at the New York State Police Olympics held in Nassau County.
Pride loves to make friends wherever he goes. Pride is pictured here with Officer Smith giving 9 month Anthony his first horseback ride. His favorite treats are carrots, apples and junior mints. He would love to meet you whenever you are in the downtown Rochester area.
